Fields to Review or Create

  • You may need to add an Audience, or add new fields or groups to an existing one
  • Consider your Audience Settings and Merge Tags
    • If you add the Constituent ID or Address fields, make sure they are set up as text fields (Mailchimp formatted fields don’t play nicely with RE fields).
  • You may want/need to add GDPR fields
  • If you are working with Relationships as well as Constituents, create the appropriate fields for mapping in the Chimpegration settings.
  • Automations – due to the limitations of Mailchimp’s API we can only work with classic automations at present, not the specific ‘customer journey’ area. As they offer very similar functionality it might be worth considering both depending on what your priorities are in terms of reporting.

Raiser’s Edge

  • Tracking Mailchimp data (such as Groups, collected data)
    • You may need to create new table entries or possibly Attributes/Custom Fields to best capture this data in Raiser’s Edge.
  • Tracking everyone sent
    • If using Actions, you’ll want to set up Action Attributes for Opens, Clicks and Campaign ID as well as an Action Notepad Type for the Campaign Name. These need to be text type fields.
    • If using Appeals, you’ll want to set up appropriate Appeal Responses (currently only available in Chimpegration Classic).
  • Managing mailing results
    • You may need to create processes for how you manage unsubscribes, bounces etc. in RE, if you already have such processes make sure you can mirror them in Chimpegration
      • Options include areas such as Consent, Solicit Codes, Constituent Attributes or marking the email address as “Do Not Contact”.
      • You may need to add additional options for these areas if you would like to be able to track that this information came from Mailchimp.
  • Using Queries or Exports in Raiser’s Edge
    • Some areas of Chimpegration work only with Query, others (such as Export) allow you to work with a Raiser’s Edge Export or a Query. Consider whether or not this option will help you narrow down your email addresses (see this Knowledgebase article for more details)
    • Review your Output on any Query or Export that you are using with Chimpegration to ensure that it has all of the fields that you would like to work with in Mailchimp.
